Originally from Long Island, New York, I studied Biology at American University (DC), and got my MD at Georgetown (DC). I then went a little north to Baltimore to study Pediatrics, Anesthesiology, Pediatric Critical Care, and then Pediatric Anesthesiology.

I worked hard to develop a good academic career, focusing on a variety of topics regarding clinical care and education; my focus relates more to practical, cost-effective, and efficient patient care processes rather than basic science trivia or minutia. I stress rational organizational skills, systematic approaches towards problem solving, simple yet effective clinical techniques, and an appreciation of both high and low technology patient management skills.

Innovation development has become my particular interest, with expertise in anesthesia airway device designs (cuffed oropharyngeal airway, COPA), noninvasive fetal monitoring (abdominal fetal ECG and uterine monitoring), noninvasive neural blockade monitoring (neural blockade monitor [BLOCKsynop, Inc.]), minimally invasive blood flow measurement in the brain and kidney (UltraCBF), informatics (Pain Management Systems), medical application of standard of care, and systems logistics (remote anesthesia, critical airway, enterprise anesthesia supply systems, disaster and mass casualty management).
